Out of the Strong Came Forth Sweetness

Out of the Strong Came Forth Sweetness; large

This quilt was inspired by Thorpe's visit to one of England's great cathedrals at Lincoln where she saw a magnificent tapestry in the style of medieval French tapestries with their mille fleurs (thousand flowers). Thorpe selected English wildflowers to adorn her quilt. The quilt also refers to the Biblical story of Samson, who killed a lion during his travels, as well as a can of syrup on her breakfast table when she was growing up with the caption, "Out of the Strong Came Forth Sweetness."
